At the British School of Lome we believe that the IB Diploma Programme is the best pathway to university for international students!

We also believe that Career Guidance through our PSHE Programme and expert academic advising provides BSL students with the tools and knowledge to choose the most appropriate IGCSE and IB courses for smooth progression to Russell Group UK universities.

Although most BSL students are declared International Baccalaureate Diploma candidates,it is occasionally convenient for a BSL student to choose to study for IB Certificates. In either case (IB Diploma or Certificates) the BSL graduate must meet the minimum credit requirements for graduation, which lead to a US-style transcript and BSL High School Diploma.

Minimum Graduation Requirements
BSL High School Diploma
English 4 credits
Mathematics 4 credits
World Language 4 credits
Sciences 3 credits
Humanities 3 credits
Physical Education 1 credit
(CAS) Service 1 credit
IGCSE Electives 8 credits
Total 27 credits

US-style Transcript and BSL High School Diploma in effect since 2013.

Where should I study? The United Kingdom? USA? Canada? Other? How can BSL Guidance Services help?

Well, the most highly ranked universities in the world are indeed located in the USA and the United Kingdom, but this decision needs to be carefully weighed by each BSL student and his/her parents. The BSL approach to careers and university placement services is individualised to meet each student's unique needs, goals, strengths, skills, and potential. We are proud of our graduates, not because we can get them into the universities of their choice, but because our graduates are well-prepared and successful at university.

Your counsellor will help match your interests and academic accomplishments with appropriately supportive and selective institutions of higher education anywhere in the world. Your counsellor can help you determine which standardised tests, or other tests, if any, you need to sign up for, whether or not you need to take a test of English proficiency, whether you need to write essays or a personal statement, or both, whether you need to request letters of recommendation or a single reference.

Application protocols are different for UK, USA, Canadian, or other universities. Contact your counsellor if you have questions! Your counsellor is responsible for making sure that BSL has the official school documents you will need The student is responsible for thoroughly researching and becoming familiarised with her or his future course of study, including associated costs (such as tuition, housing, insurance), the type of degree the student is aiming for, the kinds of English proficiency or academic tests or entrance tests the student must sit for, and most importantly: The deadlines for application.
